Loughs Agency Angling Fair 17th & 18th April 2010. River Strule, Newtonstewart Co Tyrone.
18/04/2010
The Loughs Agency Angling Fair produced some spectacular casting over the course of the weekend.
The competition took place on a purpose built, man-made pond, which allowed measurements to be made accurate to the inch.
The conditions on the Saturday proved to be very challenging as a strong headwind made it difficult to cast long distances. The competitors used this time well to hone their skills for the final on the Sunday - and the watching crowd were not disappointed!
Sunday's audience witnessed Ireland's own, Gerard Downey cast a spectacular New World Record Distance of 222 feet 4 inches - improving on his previous record by a further four inches!
A magnificent achievement. Well done Gerard.
This distance ensured that Gerard took first place in the Loughs Agency Speycasting competition 2010.

Gerard Downey, New World Record Holder.

And the official paperwork to prove it!
