2007 Rypeskken Open Speychallenge Lilliehammer

31/05/2007

"Lilliehammer in Spring" what a beautiful setting for the first open Speycasting competition in Norway. A resounding success it turned out to be, with a 1st for any Speycasting competitions to date, an electronic scoreboard. This competition was held over 2 days with qualifying on Saturday and the top 6 going into Sundays Grand Final. This was a challenging 15 foot rod course, wading waist deep and casting over both shoulders taking the scores from your best two casts and adding them together to give a combined total.

The qualifying scores.

Erik Hernes Larsen 92 metres
Gordon Armstrong 91 metres
Geir Hansen 87 metres
Mikael Bloomberg 87 metres
Per Morten Storengen 86.5 metres

The wind got stronger in the bay where the competition was taking place causing large waves, so qualifying was abandoned and the final was hastily moved to a slightly sheltered area where we were treated to a nail biting final. Congratulations to all who took part for adjusting very quickly to the new surroundings, I also must congratulate the organisers for having a contingency plan which allowed the competition to continue.
